The strong winds today have blown over a tree which had bought down a power line that feeds our house.

I had forgotten just just how much we take electricity for granted these days.

How am I doing this post then?

On my WordPress App on my iPhone!………..which despite all the comments is really great.

I am now going to publish this post over the O2 network; let’s see if this works!

Well it took a while, but I got there in the end and my iPhone 3G finally arrived on Monday 21st July.

I found it most anoying that as a business user, O2 would not take an order and simply deliver when they had stock in, but in the end this is what happened.

Best bits so far:-

A baby iMac in my hand.

Email, Contacts & Calender syncing with my desktop.

Slickness of the phone & visual voice mail.

Phone & iPod in one.

 Best Apps:_

Remote – drives iTunes from your iphone.

Twinkle – if you do Twitter.

Shopping List.

SplashID – for all your logins & passwords.

Chopper – a helicopter flying game.

Crash Kart – a driving game.

Things need improving ASAP:-

Better battery life please. 

Where is the To Do list? – from Exchange/Outlook; I thought 2.0 was for the business user?

Things to improve for the future:-

Larger pixel camera

Video calls

 32 GB version

Blackberry,  who needs ‘em!

Problems with MobileMe?

See below for some worrying problems that some users and me seem to

Well it’s been nearly a week now and I have still not managed to get my new iPhone 3G yet.

I had hoped that being a business and an O2 customer for many years that I would have no problem in ordering one as this would tick at least two of the essential boxes.

But no, I was so wrong and have found out that while Apple stores have both black & white,16 & 8GB units to choose from, this was no good to me as these are only available to new customers on new contracts.

What a marvelous way then to launch a new phone supposedly to try and break into the business market, where the Blackberry is king; making it completely impossible for existing business customers to purchase!

I think that Apple & O2 have made sure that the Blackberry will remain king for a very long time to come.

 Well done Apple and O2.

Well, this is not the posting I was hoping to be writing today.

As a business user I registered my interest in the new iPhone 3G several months ago, & received one email to say the iPhone would be available this Friday & how to “pre-order” it. I was not able to do this as their web site crashed!

So, not being able to do this we decided to get to get up early and head for an O2 store for the 8:02 opening. After waiting in the queue for an hour, we were given a ticket at number 16, but on arriving at the desk were told that the O2 system for credit checking and activating the units had crashed and that they only had the 8GB models left, which was no use to us!

Apple seemed to have rationed the UK market with only about 24 units per store, as they launched the phone in 22 countries today, but maybe this was not the best business plan, as whist a few lucky people have the units after hours of queuing at O2 stores, many many, more people will have been cheesed off and put off buying the iPhone 3G and may not bother waiting any more.

If O2 shops can’t manage to sell 24 boxes without their system crashing, why are they trading at all & why the hell are Apple using them in the UK as their air time carrier? (someone from Apple please let me know.) Good job they didn’t have any more iPhones boxes to sell then!

The O2 staff seemed to know nothing, were not trained or informed about when the next delivery would be which added insult to injury.

Latter we tried to order a unit for delivery at a later date from the web site and this was the email reply we got:-

“We’re sorry. Demand for iPhone has been incredible, and we’re out of stock at the moment. We’ll keep you updated on o2.co.uk when the next batch is in, so please keep checking us regularly. Once we’re topped up again, you’ll be able to submit your request.”

“Request”?  We just wanted to place an order….. but not any more! This is the standard email they send you every time you email them from their web site.

All in all, not a great day for Apple’s “great” new iPhone ……certainly not a great day for O2, who seem to be a complete “waste so space” and inept at dealing with customers.

11th July, but O2 are being painfully slow to confirm this.

Now I find they have sold out!

However, this is good news from Wordpress making it more user friendly when blogging on the go

with the iPhone…for when ever I get mine that is!
